I’ve been a fan of Davanni’s Pizza & Hot Hoagies in the Twin Cities ever since they started as Pontillo’s, back in the 1970s. (Does anyone else remember Pontillo’s of Minnesota?) Davanni’s has just released two new weekly coupons for it’s Facebook fans and Twitter followers: get a FREE 1-item Solo Pizza with any order of $8.00 or more. Or, enjoy savings of $1.00 off any pasta with meat or lasagna.

These coupons are good on eat-in or takeout orders. Valid through Sunday, June 29, 2014 at all 21 Davanni’s Minnesota locations: Arden Hills, Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Edina, Golden Valley, Minneapolis – Downtown, Minneapolis – Riverside, Minneapolis- Uptown, Minnetonka, Plymouth, Richfield, Rogers, Roseville, St. Paul – Cleveland & Grand, St. Paul – White Bear, Savage, and Woodbury. Davanni’s Pizza Anniversary Specials

Anyone who has lived in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota is familiar with Davanni’s. Some of us even remember Pontillo’s, the early predecessor of Davanni’s. Pontillo’s opened their first restaurant back in 1975, at the corner of Cleveland and Grand in St. Paul. The word of Pontillo’s authentic New York style pizza quickly spread and more locations were added. As a teenager growing up in Apple Valley, I spent lots of time at the Bloomington Pontillo’s. It was located on Lyndale Avenue, just north of 98th Street.

The original Pontillo’s opened in Buffalo, New York, back in 1947. As Pontillo’s expanded in the Twin Cities, they needed a name that could be trademarked. Davanti’s means “leader” in Italian. A slight modification produced “Davanni’s”, and the name change became effective on August 15, 1983. Though I have since moved away from Minnesota, a trip home to see family and friends always means a visit to Davanni’s.

To commemorate 35 years of great pizza & hoagies, Davanni’s October Celebration is taking place from Monday, October 4-Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010. It may be their anniversary, but YOU get the deals:
