Which stores are participating in the back to school sales tax holidays? As far as I know, ALL OF THEM! Since back to school sales tax holidays draw customers into stores and shopping malls, why wouldn’t they participate?

Of course, not every store offers items for sale which qualify for tax free status. Not all retailers have stores in states which are allowing sales tax holidays and/or tax free weekends. But as far as I know, all stores in participating states which offer eligible tax free items for sale are participating in the various back to school sales tax holidays which are being held throughout July and August, 2025.

Sometimes, stores selling items which are not included in the tax free weekend will host their own “No Sales Tax” sales and promotions. In this case, the retailer will give the customer a discount equal to the amount of sales tax being charged. Tax is paid to the state, but for the buyer, it’s like getting the item “tax free.”

State sales tax holidays and tax free weekends only last for a few days each year. Be sure to get to your favorite stores and shopping malls and take advantage of these back to school promotions and deals before it’s too late!

Even though Special Sales ‘N Deals is based in the U.S., I have noticed we have quite a few readers in Canada! Our neighbors in the Great White North will be celebrating Victoria Day 2025 on Monday, May 19. Victoria Day is a Canadian public holiday. It is similar to Memorial Day here in the States in that it is part of a long weekend which signifies the beginning of summer. Also like Memorial Day, Canada’s Victoria Day is a great time for sales, deals, and special promotional offers at stores, restaurants, and shopping malls.

Best Buy Canada, Sears Canada, Home Depot Canada, RONA, Eaton’s, Future Shop, Jacob, and many other big box stores as well as smaller merchants hold Victoria Day Sales or Long Weekend Sales. Most stores are open although some retailers, malls, and restaurants remain closed or run shortened holiday schedules on Victoria Day. Be sure to check with your favorite merchants for their specific hours and offerings before heading out for the Long Weekend Sales and Victoria Day Sales: May 17-18-19, 2025.
