Oregon Sales Tax Holiday Free Weekend

October 12, 2024

If you live in Oregon, consider yourself fortunate when it comes to taxes. Oregon is one of five states that do not have a sales tax:

– Alaska
– Delaware
– Montana
– New Hampshire
– Oregon

Because Oregon does not levy a sales tax, no 2025 sales tax holiday or tax free weekend is necessary. Every day is a sales tax holiday! Back to school shopping is always cheaper (and better) when no sales taxes are required!

Nevada Sales Tax Holiday Free Weekend

October 12, 2024

If you live in Nevada, I have some bad news: as of this writing, Nevada will not be having a sales tax holiday or tax free weekend in 2025. All back to school purchases during July and August will be subject to the normal combined state + county + city sales tax rate. Depending on location, the total sales tax is between 6.850% and 8.265%.

If you happen to be traveling this summer, these 18 states WILL be holding sales tax holidays: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon have no state sales tax.

In Minnesota and Pennsylvania, clothing and footwear are exempt.

Keep your fingers crossed and maybe (hopefully!) your legislators will enact a Nevada sales tax holiday for 2025.

Illinois Sales Tax Holiday Free Weekend

October 12, 2024

This tax holiday applied in previous years but has NOT yet been approved by the Illinois Legislature for 2025. As soon as I receive further information, this page will be updated. Be sure to check back often!

Don’t miss this year’s Illinois Sales Tax Holiday when doing your back-to-school shopping. The tax reduction weekends take place over 10 days:

Friday, August 5
Saturday, August 6
Sunday, August 7
Monday, August 8
Tuesday, August 9
Wednesday, August 10
Thursday, August 11
Friday, August 12
Saturday, August 13
Sunday, August 14

On these dates, you can purchase these items at the reduced Illinois state sales tax rate of 1.25%:

– Clothing and footwear priced at $125 or less per item. Accessories such as jewelry, handbags, wallets, watches, backpacks, and similar items do not qualify for the Sales Tax Holiday.

– School supplies (no dollar limit)

Many stores will be having special back to school sales on eligible items in conjunction with the sales tax holiday. Walmart, Target, Belk, Shoe Carnival, Famous Footwear, Dillard’s, Sears, JCPenney, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Marshalls, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Best Buy, Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples have frequent tax free weekend sales and back to school tax holiday promotions.

Please note this tax holiday only reduces the STATE sales tax rate to 1.25% from 6.25%. Normal rate of local taxes will apply.

Be sure to take advantage of the Illinois Sales Tax Holiday and back-to-school tax reduction weekends: August 5-14, 2022.
