Don’t miss this year’s Illinois Sales Tax Holiday when doing your back-to-school shopping. The tax reduction weekends take place over 10 days:

On these dates, you can purchase these items at the reduced Illinois state sales tax rate of 1.25%:
– Clothing and footwear priced at $125 or less per item. Accessories such as jewelry, handbags, wallets, watches, backpacks, and similar items do not qualify for the Sales Tax Holiday.
– School supplies (no dollar limit)
Many stores will be having special back to school sales on eligible items in conjunction with the sales tax holiday. Walmart, Target, Belk, Shoe Carnival, Famous Footwear, Dillard’s, Sears, JCPenney, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Marshalls, Kohl’s, Old Navy, Best Buy, Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples have frequent tax free weekend sales and back to school tax holiday promotions.
Please note this tax holiday only reduces the STATE sales tax rate to 1.25% from 6.25%. Normal rate of local taxes will apply.
