Does Canada have Black Friday? Up until a few years ago, the answer was “no.” Black Friday is the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season. Canada celebrates Thanksgiving Day on the second Monday in October. Therefore, it really wouldn’t fit to have a Canadian “Black Friday.”
In recent years, however, some Canadian retailers have started having Black Friday sales. This is especially true for stores located near the U.S. border. These merchants have created Black Friday Canada in an attempt to stem the flow of cross-border shopping on Thanksgiving weekend. In recent years, Black Friday sales have taken place at these stores:
– ALDO
– Babies R Us Canada
– Bell Mobility
– Best Buy Canada
– The Brick
– Cabela’s Canada
– Canadian Tire
– Danier
– Dynamite
– EB Games
– Forever 21 Canada
– Future Shop
– Holt Renfrew
– Home Depot Canada
– Home Hardware
– Home Outfitters
– Hudson’s Bay
– IKEA Canada
– Kent Building Supplies
– London Drug
– Lowe’s Canada
– Marshalls Canada
– RONA
– RW&CO.
– Sears Canada
– Shoppers Drug Mart
– Toys R Us Canada
– Walmart Canada
Of course, nearly all Canadian stores are OPEN on the U.S. Thanksgiving Day since this is not a recognized holiday in Canada. This year, there will be lots of Black Friday sales and deals to be had on both sides of the border. Then, get ready for Cyber Monday, a major shopping holiday in both Canada and here in the States.
