Yes, 2024 is a leap year! Thursday, February 29 is just around the corner. Believe it or not, Leap Day has become a promotional “holiday” at some stores and shopping malls. Many locations will be having “2 for $29” sales on this day. Special Leap Year or Leap Day menu items are being offered at several restaurants. Buy One Get One Free deals and outright freebies will be found in many places. All you have to do is find them! Here’s a start:

7-Eleven has you covered for lunch or dinner with 5 wings for just $2.29. Available 2/29 only.

Harps Hometown Fresh grocery stores have several 2/29 specials including Roma frozen pizzas for 2.29, Tina’s Select Big Burritos for $1.29, and fresh blueberries $2.29 per pint.

Hungry Howie’s is offering a large 1 topping pizza for only 29 cents when you purchase any large pizza with 1 or more toppings. Available 2/26-29.

McDonald’s $2.99 Filet-O-Fish Friday

This is what I call “Cheap Filet-O-Fish Season.” It’s that magic time of year when McDonald’s drops the price of their Filet-O-Fish sandwiches at many locations across the U.S. I have good news and bad news for the current Lenten season. First, the bad news: I have seen fewer deals this year vs in the past. The special spring Filet-O-Fish offer is not a national promotion. Pricing and availability varies by restaurant and region. So far, there just aren’t as many discounted deals this year as there used to be. Hopefully, this will change as we get closer to Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The GOOD news is that Micky D’s in southern California has brought back Filet-O-Fish Fridays. Price for 2024 is $2.99 and qualifies as one of the best fish sandwich deals available. Order using the McDonald’s mobile app and price is just $2.50! The catch is that it’s ONLY available for 7 Fridays and ONLY at select locations. These are the dates:

Most of the Los Angeles metro area restaurants are honoring this promotion. Don’t miss $2.99 Filet-O-Fish Fridays, available through Good Friday 2024 at participating southern California McDonald’s restaurants. Most locations will be open holiday hours on Easter Sunday, March 31.

McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish Promotions & Prices

MARCH 2024 UPDATE: Welcome to Lent season! Due to inflation, I doubt we’ll ever see a national 2 for $5 Filet-O-Fish again. However, McDonald’s usually runs some type of fish promotion between now and Easter Sunday. Regular price is now $3.99 in my area, so I’m thinking a sale price around $3 might happen? Possibly an app-only BOGO deal? I’ll keep watching. As soon as I receive further information, this page will be updated. Be sure to check back often!

McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish deals have been happening for more than 50 years. I’m 59 and can remember when they were just 49 cents! Over the years, the promotional price has increased gradually: 59 cents, 79 cents, 99 cents, 2 for $2, 2 for $2.22, 2 for $3, 2 for $3.33, 2 for $4, 2 for $4.44, and finally 2 for $5. In many areas, the Filet-O-Fish was available last year as part of McDonald’s 2 for $6 Mix & Match Deal. Originally, this special pricing was only available during the weeks leading up to Good Friday and Easter. More recently, we’ve been seeing Filet-O-Fish specials year-round!

While we’re on the subject of fish sandwich offers for Lenten season, here’s a few more that I have found at other restaurants:

– Arby’s: 2 for $6 Mix ‘n Match Crispy Fish or Fish N Cheddar.
– Burger King: Buy 1 Big Fish, get 1 for $2.
– Captain D’s: Buy 1 Giant Fish, get 1 for $1 Fridays 2/16, 2/23, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5
– Checker’s & Rally’s: Buy One Get One FREE Crispy Fish Fridays 2/16, 2/23, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29.
– Runza: North Pacific Cod Sandwich. Available February-March. Price varies by location.
– Wendy’s: Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich, $5.49 at my local Wendy’s. Price varies by location.

Filet-O-Fish Friday has returned to participating Southern California McDonald’s restaurants. Price is $2.99, or $2.50 if you order with the mobile app. Available only on Fridays, February 16-March 29, 2024. 50% Off Half Price Valentine’s Day Candy Discounts

There are 4 times per year to buy candy: immediately after Valentine’s Day, Easter Sunday, Halloween, and Christmas. Hershey, Nestle, Mars, and Wonka all create special holiday candy assortments. Packaging makes it unique to each particular holiday. After the holiday, this candy cannot be sold at full price because the packaging is now outdated. It cannot be saved and resold the following year because it would become inedible long before then. This is why Valentine’s Day candy is discounted significantly, beginning on February 15.

After Valentine’s Day, candy discounts of 50% are common. Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Walgreens are good national sources. Target usually starts at 30%, but eventually gets to 50 and finally 70% in the final days. I’ve also found Kroger family stores to offer half price Halloween candy: Dillons, Fred Meyer, Fry’s Food Stores, QFC, Ralphs, Smith’s, Baker’s, City Market, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Gerbes, Jay C Food Stores, King Soopers, Owen’s, and Pay Less Super Markets. If these retailers exist in your area, RiteAid, CVS Pharmacy, Cub Foods, A&P, Albertsons, Publix, Safeway/Von’s, Osco/Jewel, and Cashwise/Coborns are also worth a shot.

Be quick to take advantage of half price Valentine’s Day candy sales! The “good stuff” always sells out within a few days. Come early and you’ll find Reese’s Peanut Butter Hearts, Baby Ruths, Kit Kats, Twix, Snickers, and Milky Way for 50% off. Wait too long and there will be nothing left besides leftover cards and junk that nobody wants. February 15th is prime time for half price Valentine’s Day candy deals.
