There are 5 times each year to buy Tostitos, Doritos, and potato chips: the week before Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/New Year’s. Many stores will sell chips at or below cost during these times. The purpose is to get you into the store where they hope you will then purchase all your other holiday groceries and party items from them.
It used to be pretty common to find chips on sale for $2 per bag during the pre-holiday sales. But food price inflation has taken it’s toll and prices have risen substantially over the past few years. This is also why the bags are smaller and/or weigh less than they used to. Don’t even get me started on that soapbox! Fortunately, Target comes to the rescue for Labor Day Weekend! Target is offering standard size bags of Lay’s Potato Chips, 2 bags for $4.00.
According to the newspaper insert, there doesn’t appear to be a limit on these. You’re not likely to find a cheaper price, so stock up now and make sure you have enough to last until Thanksgiving Day!
