UPDATE: The Burger King Yumbo has once again pulled it’s disappearing act! As of August 2024, it is no longer on the menu. It may still be available at certain locations or on the often rumored Burger King “Secret Menu.” If you find a BK offering the Yumbo sandwich, please let us know where and how much it costs. Thanks!
How many of us are old enough to remember the Burger King Yumbo? This hot ham and cheese sandwich was sold from 1968 until 1974. Suddenly, it disappeared from the menu. My dad loved the Yumbo and was very disappointed when Burger King discontinued the sandwich. Now, just as suddenly, it has returned. The new Yumbo is slightly different from the 1974 version, however. Today’s Yumbo includes lettuce and mayonnaise on a hoagie bun. The previous version was ham and cheese only on a regular round sandwich bun.
I can’t remember the exact Yumbo price in 1974 (I was 10 years old), but I think it was somewhere around $1.25. Today’s price is $3.69. Not bad. Especially when you consider it is a bigger sandwich with more ingredients now vs then. You can get an even better deal if you buy 2 Yumbos since Burger King has added it to their ongoing 2 for $5 promotion. Mix and match any 2 Yumbo Hot Ham and Cheese, Original Chicken Sandwich, Big King, or Big Fish sandwiches for just $5.00.
The Yumbo is available for a limited time at participating locations. Most Burger King restaurants will be open holiday hours on New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, December 31.)
