Are you cheap like me? You don’t need to spend money to get legitimate solar eclipse glasses. NASA is giving away 1.5 million pairs! Libraries across the country have around 2 million to hand out. Regardless of where you get your solar viewer, be sure it’s legitimate. Already, there have been reports of counterfeit glasses being sold. This is not something you want to mess with. Viewing the sun in an unsafe manner can damage your eyes. As in permanently. Make sure that the glasses or viewer you choose has been verified by an accredited testing laboratory to meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.
Whatever type of solar viewer you choose, be sure to observe the eclipse. The last one happened in March, 1979. The next one doesn’t occur until April, 2024. Although its less than 7 years away, the 2024 eclipse will not be visible from as many locations as the 2017 version. Buy a viewer before the stores run out and enjoy this unique astronomical event on Monday, August 21!
