Louisiana 2nd Amendment Hunting Sales Tax Holiday

March 13, 2024

Louisiana hunters, I have some bad news: Louisiana will not be having a Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday or tax free weekend in 2024. The tax and budget deal passed by the legislature will end Louisiana’s state sales tax holidays until at least 2025. All purchases of hunting supplies will be subject to the normal combined state + county + city sales tax rate. In most areas, the total sales tax is between 9% and 10%.

In previous years, sportsmen and women could purchase virtually any item for use during the upcoming hunting season and receive a 2% rate reduction of Louisiana state sales tax. Bows, arrows, clothing, tree stands, knives, decoys, binoculars and range finders, scopes, GPS, even ATVs (four wheelers) were included.

Keep your fingers crossed and maybe (hopefully!) your legislators will reinstate the Louisiana Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday for 2025.
